The commune of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, just a short drive from Les Sables d'Olonne, boasts a rich tourist heritage.

Talmont Castle, an 11th-century fortress

Built in 1020, the Talmont-Saint-Hilaire Castle once belonged to Richard the Lionheart. Overlooking the town, it offers an exceptional panoramic view of Talmont and the surrounding area. On a self-guided or organized tour, you'll plunge full Middle Ages and learn about the history of the Château: from its construction to its burning down to its purchase by the municipality in 1920. You'll also learn that it was listed as a Historical Monuments in 2009, since when it has been regularly promoted through various initiatives.
