It's the resort's not-to-be-missed event: The Vendée Globe, this legendary solo race around the world. Skippers from the 4 corners of the globe compete aboard their 60-foot monohulls, non-stop and without assistance. The goal: to complete the around the world, and, of course, set a new record. The race was created in 1989 and is now one of the toughest in the world. Nearly 25,000 miles to be sailed against wind and tide, crossing the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans as the seasons change.


Which boat for this solo round-the-world race?


To take part in the Vendée Globe, all boats must measure 60 feet (approx. 18 m long) with a draught of 4.50 m. These monohulls are the most powerful in existence, as they are very well equipped and can exceed 30 knots. Today's skippers are equipped to sail single-handed around the globe and to withstand the various weather conditions they may encounter during the race.

The Vendée Globe usually takes place in the autumn between October and November and attracts many enthusiasts and curious people!
