The beaches of Les Sables d'Olonne in September

It's impossible to talk about the beaches of the Vendée without starting with the Grande Plage in Les Sables d'Olonne. The most famous of the Vendée's seaside resorts for its long sandy beach, a 3km stretch of embankment with shops facing south and the sea!

Prefer a wilder beach? Head for the Sauveterre beach, A surfing spot known for its rollers, it's perfect for a walk with your dog (leashed all year round). A mix of dunes, rocks and even the surrounding forest for a walk in the heart of nature.

Plage de la Paracou is the ideal spot for shore fishing. It's a long beach of fine sand bordered by dunes and rocks, wilder and less crowded than the larger Plage des Sables.

Or the Veillon beach in Talmont-Hilaire a perfect combination of swimming, nature and even bird-watching.
